Sell Target Limit Hit for Goldcorp (G.TO)

27 Aug

Can you believe just a couple of months ago I was down a good $2000 in paper loss for Goldcorp?

I had bought Goldcorp 200 @ $33.08/share on March 13, 2013 thinking that was their support line.  Little did I know would gold prices dip way below that support line.  Near the end of June 2013, Goldcorp hit a low of $23.26!  But I stayed strong and took it in stride by collecting their monthly $10 dividend.

For the past month, Goldcorp showed sign of recovery and has been steadily climbing up.  Yesterday, I saw the momentum and set my sell target price at $33.50/share hoping to get out of this stock before it takes a dive again.

This morning, my target hit above my asking price at $33.60/share instead.  Yipee!  I walk away with a capital gain of $104.00 minus commission.  Way better if I had chickened out and sold out for a loss, right?

So the lesson here folks, even in the darkest days, if a stock has potential to climb its way out of its own dark hole, keep the sucker till you see a brighter day.

PS.  I never liked Gold as a stock, I was lured by their monthly dividend and their 52 week lows when I bought Goldcorp.  I thought I was buying at their bottom, but several months later, that’s not the case.  Sometimes, I shouldn’t chase after stocks on the cheap.  Cheap stocks have the potential to go either way.  Most of the time, I’ve taken a hit for the worse.

Swoon, market is rallying!

Time for me to get the fuck out of Suncor, before it dips below my buy in price.

For most part, this stock has been in the red.  There were a couple times when I could have sold out at a small profit, but I wanted to wait for a bigger profit only to end up with a paper loss.

This time, I’m taking my little profit and a peace of mind.

Trade Details:

Bought on Feb 8, 2013- 300 @ $32.30/share

Sold on July 11, 2013-  300 @ $32.56/share

# days held:  153 (TOO LONG)

Commission paid:  $4.95 from QT, $3.00 from VB

Profit:  $70.05

Dividend:  $99.00

I can’t wait to get out of Goldcorp!  This is a stock I regret buying.  I had a gain of $200, but I didn’t take it when I had the chance.  Now, I am holding on a paper loss of $1270.95 at the moment.  >_<  I tend to have a bad habit of holding onto stocks for too long…

Whilst the market is up, Goldcorp is down!

WTF, is wrong with gold for the last few months?  People are falling out of love with gold!!  Simple as that.

Last time, I bitched about Gold, it went up the very next day.  Maybe, if I do it again, it’ll have a little run up the market?

Through all these years, I’ve never been a fan of Gold.  What does gold represent to make it such a high commodity?  When I think of Gold, they are used mostly to make jewelry, bars and coins… but I guess there are other things that require a spec of Gold in them.

But what made me buy into Goldcorp?  It was the monthly 5c dividend.  I should have known better.  I shouldn’t have let the price lure me in.

Now, I am down almost 20% on Goldcorp.  This is quite disturbing as I have 200 shares in this company where it has for the better part been a little lackluster.

I will continue to hold till I see green again.  But I can always bitch about it to make myself feel better.

WTF is up with Gold?

Barrick Gold Corp is trading at $18 per share.  Really?  That’s a $12 per share drop in ONE month.  Wow, I am getting worried about my recent purchase of Goldcorp Inc.  I am still shaking my head as I didn’t pull the sale trigger when I had a $200 gain in the beginning stages.  This was suppose to be a swing trade for me.  Now, I am holding in the hopes that Gold will recover and climb out of its dark depths that has shadowed upon them recently.

Personally, I have never gotten the gold fever.  What hooked me into Goldcorp was their monthly 5 cent per share dividend pay out.  Plus it was trading at its 52 week low.  This may have seem like a good deal at that time, but I did not anticipate the steep down fall in the past week.  Currently, I am at a paper loss of $932.95, -14.09%.  OUCH!

Today, the markets is in the green.  Yet, Gold has faltered.  Could this be the end of the gold rush?  This is yet to be determined.  This goes to show you how a stock can turn its back on you in an instant.

Is it wise to buy at a 52 week low?  It really depends on your patience and time horizon.
